mediloop
Solutions for organizations

When the bill is wrong, someone should check it before it gets paid.

mediloop checks an employee's or member's bill against their EOB and the itemized charges, then a human advocate gets the errors corrected with the provider. Your team never handles the bill.

What it is

Billing error review as a benefit

Billing error review as a benefit means an employee or member can send a medical bill they think is wrong to a specialist service instead of paying it or giving up. mediloop reads the bill, the EOB and the itemized charges, finds charges that don't match, and asks the provider to correct them in writing.

It starts after the plan has processed the claim. mediloop doesn't adjudicate, reprice or edit claims. It works the bill the person was actually sent.

Why it matters

People don't pay bills they don't trust, and they don't challenge them either.

Debt is common

In KFF's health care debt survey, 41% of US adults said they were carrying debt from medical or dental bills.

Doubt is part of it

44% of those with debt said they had held off paying a bill because they weren't sure it was accurate.

Asking works more often than people think

In a 2023 national survey published in JAMA Health Forum, about a quarter of people who contacted the billing office about a bill had it corrected.

What gets checked

The checks a careful reader would run, on every charge.

The bill against the EOB: same dates, same services, same amount owed
Charges billed twice for the same service on the same day
Codes for a more expensive service than the one received
Code pairs that shouldn't be billed together
Services listed that the person didn't receive
Payments, adjustments and deposits that weren't credited
Insurance that was never billed, or billed to the wrong plan
Balances that should have gone to another payer, such as auto or workers' comp

To check the charges line by line mediloop asks the provider for an itemized bill. Under HIPAA people have the right to copies of their billing records, and a provider can't withhold them over an unpaid balance.

How it works

AI does the reading. A person does the talking.

01

The person sends their bill

An employee or member uploads the bill and EOB through mediloop's intake and authorizes their own case. HR doesn't collect or forward anything.

02

AI-powered investigation

mediloop's AI reads the documents, pulls out every charge and code, and runs them against the EOB, coding rules and published prices.

03

A human advocate gets it corrected

An advocate reviews what was found, asks the provider for corrections in writing and follows up until the bill is fixed or the person knows exactly what they owe.

Good for both sides

A real answer for the employee. No bill in HR's inbox.

For the person with the bill
A plain explanation of the bill and EOB
Every charge checked, not just the total
Corrections requested in writing
Updates until the case is closed
For the organization
Somewhere to send people with a bill they doubt
No individual bill details reach HR
Aggregate reporting on use and outcomes
A scoped pilot before a longer commitment

Questions buyers ask

Billing error review, answered.

It gives employees or members a specialist service to check a medical bill they think is wrong. mediloop compares the bill with the EOB and the itemized charges, and a human advocate asks the provider to correct charges that don't hold up. The person works with mediloop directly and the organization gets aggregate reporting.
There is no reliable national error rate, and we don't quote one. What is measured: in a 2023 national survey in JAMA Health Forum, about a quarter of people who contacted the billing office about a bill had it corrected, and in KFF's survey 44% of people with medical debt had held off paying because they weren't sure the bill was right.
Yes. AI-powered investigation reads the documents and checks the charges. A human advocate is on every case, reviews what the AI found and is the only one who contacts the provider or insurer.
No. mediloop works after the plan has processed the claim. It doesn't adjudicate, reprice or edit claims. If the problem is how the plan paid the claim, the advocate helps the person take that to the plan through its appeal process.
Agreed aggregate reporting, such as how many people used the service, how many cases were worked and how they resolved. Individual bills and case details are not routinely shared.
